Swell of a Decade

A couple weeks ago i spent the week down at my uncle matt's in newport. Little did i know that i was about to witness one of the best swells in years! The swell came from tahiti then to el salvador then to mexico then to good ol southern ca. Thursday was when the swell first hit and it peaked friday and saturday. We drove up and down the coast and were able to witness waves as big as 20 ft in some spots (crystal cove and the wedge). 2 people actually died at the wedge. Their were helicopters flying around, paramedics, firefighters, newsreporters, lifeguards galore and literally thousands of people watching. We surfed Brooks street on thursday and friday surfed salt creek and the corona del mar harbor and the last day i was their we surfed pearl street when the swell started to drop off. Sunday we were able to stop by at the U.S. open for finals and saw local boy Brett Simpson win 100 g's, which was awesome. All in all we surfed some unforgettable waves and witnessed the swell of a decade. Here are some pics, but they still dont do it justice...surfs up.
Pearl Street

Only a handful of guys out, pretty rare.

The peopls champ
The waves were so big they had to use jet skis to take the surfers back out after each wave. First time they have done that in U.S. open history.

For the us common folk who don't surf, the magnitude of waves were amazing to watch. It was fun watching you and Matt!
